Interviewing
Tips
Okay, the marketing
tool has worked its desired magic,
and you've got yourself an interview.
Congratulations - let the games
begin, each step of the process
aimed at the next!
Just as the resume is goaled
to win an interview, so is a phone
screen aimed at obtaining a live
interview, the first interview
aimed towards an invitation for
a second round - with of course
the ultimate prize being the coveted
job offer. The job offer presents
the ultimate decision for you
to consider – while you
may opt to decline to accept an
offer, keep in mind that in the
absence of that offer, there are
no options to be considered. "Turn
down offers, not opportunities."
To that end, the job interview
is a strategic set of discussions
with two purposes:
•To persuade
the employer that you have the
skills, background, ability and
desired personal attributes to
make you the ideal fit for that
organization.
•To glean
information about the position,
opportunity and culture such that
you are able to assess whether
it’s right for you.
Once again, I scoured the web
in search of salient advice. While
interviewing skills can be quantified
and are therefore rule-based,
there is still a large interpersonal
factor hence there remains room
for subjectivity and improvisation.
